📚心得【Bobiverse #4：Heaven's River】 by Dennis E. Taylor, 2020

Bobiverse第四集我自己感覺是最多餘的一集，篇幅主要聚焦在新發現的Megastructure與於其中居住的低科技文明、他們所埋藏的秘密與社會文化等；Bobs之間的個性與意見差異也逐漸走向無政府、無向心狀態，各自組成小群體、相互防備、自創用語，甚至有「一些Bobs會以大義為由駭入其他Bob的系統，或將自己的複製體拿來做實驗」的陰謀論開始傳出…

(這部分應該有連結到Dennis Taylor的另一本書《Singularity Trap》的劇情，但寫這篇心得當下我還沒看過該書。)

讀這集時，第一次覺得與新種族互動的主劇情不有趣，反而Bobs之間的內鬨支線讓我有動力不斷讀下去，希望這會是未來第5集聚焦的主題。

另外這集也開始探討「後人類」主題，有些人即使不願意讓自己資訊化、成為AHI，也能透過腦保存、半冷凍等方式成為有肉體的AHI在VR中半永久活動，即使在計算速度等上仍遠遠不及AHI。

I feel like 《Bobiverse #4》 is the most redundant one so far, focusing mainly on a newly discovered megastructure and the low-tech civilization living within it, along with their hidden secrets, societal norms, and cultural practices. The differences in personalities and opinions among Bobs are becoming more pronounced, leading them to form mutual distrust and small groups, creating their own jargon, and even rumors that "some Bobs justify hacking into others' systems or using their duplicates for experiments under the guise of a greater cause" begin to circulate...

(This part seems to connect to Dennis Taylor's other book《Singularity Trap》, but at the time I wrote this review, I hadn't looked into it yet.)

While reading this volume, for the first time I found the main plot of interacting with new species less interesting compared to the internal conflicts among the Bobs. The latter kept me motivated to keep reading, and I hope it becomes the focus of book 5.

This episode also touches on the "post-human" theme, where some individuals choose not to fully digitize or become AHI (Advanced Human Intelligence), but instead opt for methods like brain preservation or semi-cryopreservation to exist as physical beings within VR environments. Even so, their processing speeds are still far behind those of AHIs.
