After watching the Amazon Prime TV show, reading 《Expanse》 novel was a pretty unique experience for me. The production team did an amazing job, with great acting and high-quality adaptation. However, limited by budget and length, they couldn't fully capture the story or left out many details. Season 6 of the TV show only covered the first half of 《Expanse #6: Babylon's Ashes》, and due to budget cuts, production has been halted. That made me decide to read the novel directly.

A few years ago, when I was still intimidated by original novels, opening the 《Expanse》 book and seeing over 500 pages made me want to immediately give up. I ran to read other books. After practicing with over ten novels, my reading speed for English novels is now almost as fast as in Chinese. Without realizing it, I finished the second book, proving that practice makes perfect.

To be strict, 《Expanse》 doesn’t really have a core ideology; it’s purely focused on the plot. Therefore, without discussing the story, there’s not much to talk about. ⚠Spoilers ahead.⚠

Book Two is, to be strict, just a continuation of the events from Book One. The remnants of Protogen and Mao Kwik haven’t been fully cleared yet, leading to a series of interconnected events. Honestly, it’s not as exciting as the first book, and the ending isn’t as emotional or dramatic.

This episode, while abandoning the Protogen-related characters, sees Eros emerging after falling onto Venus, setting the stage for the upcoming plot of《Abbadon's Gate》. Episode two, in the context of the entire series, serves as a larger human subplot while introducing several politically significant characters.

The ending? Well, 《Expanse》 is always good at leaving a hint of an upcoming event to keep you hooked and eager to read the next book. Props to the authors for telling stories this well.

IMO Rating: 73. A decent sequel, but honestly, I didn’t take anything profound from the story.
