我覺得最經典的台詞:“I should have known. You’re too selfish to love anyone other than yourself.”

In my memory, it was recommended on r/scifi on Reddit. Thanks to foreign netizens for promoting it 🙏 If you find it hard to imagine what "fantasy sci-fi" is like, check this one out. The downside is that it's currently only available on Netflix US and UK (HBO gave it up to Netflix, WTF), and a few days ago, Netflix started blocking VPNs according to the contract. Some workaround is needed.

This truly opened my eyes. Each episode feels like watching an interconnected narrative of the TV show 《Alien Worlds》, but each one stands as its own independent adventure. The music and visuals are full of fantasy elements, yet the tension remains consistent without feeling disjointed. It's been a long, long time since I've seen such an outstanding sci-fi animated series — probably since the anime《Valley of the Wind》 and 《Planetes》.

《Scavengers Reign》 also reminded me, that "nature" exists in a state of chaos and mutual slaughter by default; the harmony we know is rarely seen in cross-species interactions.

This also made me rethink why we only consider cyborg-like human-machine integration or dog-human synergy like in the novel 《Dogs of War》, but not chimeric mixtures of diverse elements? Having read Adrian Tchaikovsky's works, one should have considered such possibilities... The fastest path to evolution and mutation is through integration with everything encountered — organic and inorganic alike.

What I found most iconic was the line: "I should have known. You're too selfish to love anyone other than yourself." But at its core, isn't this the essence of a 'species'? It's natural for humans to prioritize self-interest; survival of the fittest is inevitable in a resource-limited universe.

Argh, I'm worried about not able to find similar outstanding works. Maybe there are English novels, but each time I have to go through several duds before finding one gem like this 😥
