📚心得【Artemis 月球城市】 by Andy Weir, 2017

Before reading this, I naively thought that hard sci-fi would surely win over soft sci-fi because of its scientific plausibility. But all I felt was sleepy while reading this one 😓 Sure, everything is grounded in real physics, but every solution to the problems feels too straightforward and lacks dramatic tension.
I can understand why Andy Weir wanted to write a story that isn't just about one character after 《The Martian》, but this is presented way worse. Typically, his style is "accidentally encountering a problem → proposing a solution → things don't go smoothly → ingeniously finding a fix," while in 《Artemis》, it's more like "rebellious protagonist stirs up trouble → gets into a mess → proposes a dumb solution → panics → cleans up their own mess." It feels like the characters are busy fixing issues they've created for the sake of story progression.
That said, 《Artemis》 still has its strengths: it's the largest, most detailed, and scientifically accurate "metropolis" in Andy Weir's works. Unlike 《The Martian》, which mainly takes place within a base, or 《Project Hail Mary》, which is mostly aboard a ship, this one features a vast map with five domed cities, power plants, heavy industry factories, outdoor areas on the moon, and places emphasis on describing the lives, culture, economy, etc., of people on the moon.
Scientifically speaking, it's flawless like 《The Martian》— absolutely no black tech or sorcery involved. But the story itself is far less interesting, only relying on "because it's set on the moon, everything is more complicated."
IMO Rating: 60. A plain work with just scientific descriptions and no interesting plot.
